Local residents welcomed to Avonmouth event

National Grid gives in person update on upcoming pylon construction

On Wednesday 29 June, team members from National Grid were joined by colleagues from our contractor, Balfour Beatty, to answer questions from local Avonmouth residents at a public information event about the upcoming build of lattice pylons in the area.

Ahead of the construction of lattice pylons in Avonmouth in early July, the two hour event provided the community with the opportunity to learn more about where they will be built, what will happen to existing pylons, and how the pylons are constructed.

The event was welcomed by residents, who told our team that the timing of the event in the early evening fitted well with their schedules and allowed them to hear first-hand about the work before the most visible aspects started.

To ensure everyone had an opportunity to hear more about the upcoming works, the project team sent postcards to over 2,000 homes and businesses in the Avonmouth area inviting them to the event.

Steven Haskayne, Senior Project Manager on the Hinkley Connection Project for National Grid who attended the event commented:

“At every step of the Hinkley Connection Project we aim to keep local people and community groups informed of what we’re doing in their area – events such as these are just one way we seek to do this. It was great to be able to speak to local people about our project in person once again, to introduce the team, talk through our works and address questions or concerns there and then.”
